Booking a motivational speaker is an investment - not just in your event, but in your audience’s experience. Yet one of the most common questions event organisers ask is, “What’s actually included in the speaker’s fee?”
It’s a great question, because the answer isn’t always straightforward. Every speaker works differently, and what’s included in their package can vary a lot. Being clear upfront avoids awkward surprises later and ensures everything runs smoothly on the day.
Here’s what to expect... and how I personally handle it when working with clients.
This is the first area to clarify. Some speakers include all travel and accommodation within their quoted fee; others charge it separately depending on distance or logistics.
Typically, travel expenses might cover flights, trains, hotels, and ground transport to and from the venue.
When I speak at events, I like to keep things simple and transparent. I’ll always confirm travel arrangements in advance and agree on what’s covered - no hidden extras or last-minute additions. My goal is to make it as easy as possible for the event organiser.
A great talk doesn’t just happen on stage - it’s built through preparation.
Most professional speakers include prep time in their fee, but it’s worth checking what that means in practice. Does it cover pre-event briefings, audience research, or customisation of the talk?
For me, this is a crucial part of the process. Before every event, I hold a pre-event call (or two) with the organiser to understand the audience, goals, and tone. I research the organisation, learn about the challenges they face, and adapt my Mental Toughness keynote to make it fully relevant. That preparation is included in my fee - because the more I know about your world, the bigger the impact I can deliver.
Many speakers provide slides, handouts, or digital resources as part of their package. It’s worth asking whether these materials are customised for your audience - or simply reused from other events.
I believe audiences should leave with something practical and memorable. That’s why every client receives a unique QR code at the end of my keynote, giving attendees access to additional Mental Toughness resources - including a summary of the talk, extra tips, and a free 7-day plan to help them build resilience.
This adds real value to the event and keeps the message alive long after the session ends.
Some speakers deliver their talk and disappear. Others - like me - see the event as the start of a relationship, not the end of one.
Many organisers now ask for follow-up content to reinforce the keynote’s impact. This might include a short post-event video message, a group Q&A, or access to further digital tools.
I’m always happy to discuss post-event engagement options that help your audience turn inspiration into action. After all, the goal isn’t just to motivate people for an hour - it’s to help them apply what they’ve learned in the days and weeks that follow.
Finally, consider any extras you might want from your speaker. For example:
These may not be included in the base fee, but a good speaker will be clear and flexible about what’s possible.
When booking a motivational speaker, clarity is everything. Always ask for a full breakdown of what’s included, what isn’t, and how logistics will be handled. The best speakers will welcome that conversation - because it shows professionalism and builds confidence on both sides.
When I work with clients, I make sure everything is outlined clearly from the start: fees, travel, materials, and any optional extras. That way, there are no surprises - just a smooth, well-organised experience that allows everyone to focus on what matters most: delivering a powerful, memorable event.
Choosing the right speaker is about more than a great talk - it’s about finding someone who’s easy to work with, reliable, and committed to helping your audience grow.
That’s exactly how I approach every engagement. Because when you book me, you don’t just get a keynote - you get a partner in creating lasting impact.
