Imagine how amazing it would be to set up a series of events in your life, that all happen in a kind of ‘chain reaction’ that brought you the success or outcome you desire. Well it is possible!

The Domino Effect is the cumulative effect produced when one event sets off a chain of similar events. It’s not merely a phenomenon that happens to you, but something you can create.

If you line up actual dominos, they individually represent a small amount of potential energy; the more you line up, the more potential energy you accumulate.  Line up enough and, with a simple flick, you can start a chain reaction of surprising power.

When one thing, the right thing, is set in motion, it can topple many things.

And the good news is that its within your power to spark a chain reaction of good habits, tasks or events that build momentum and energy in your life…and naturally lead to you building the success you seek.

Before I explain the three key things you can do to set off the domino effect in your life, let me illustrate the power of it.

In 2009 Stephen Morris set up an experiment, with 13 dominoes. The smallest domino at the front was just 5mm high, 1mm thick and was set on its end using tweezers – it was that tiny The domino placed behind it was 1.5 times thicker, longer and wider. Each domino placed behind the next followed that pattern – 1.5 times thicker, longer and wider. The last one was about a meter tall and weighed about 50kg (7 and a half stone).

Morris flicked the first tiny domino and within a second or two, due to the chain reaction, the largest one that weighed 50 kg, fell down with a huge bang.  Had he lined up 29 dominoes following the same pattern of increase in size, the last one would have been as tall as the Empire State Building.

Imagine a domino of that size falling, that began with such TINY domino of initial energy . Thanks to the ‘stored gravitational energy’ the amplification of energy is about 2 Billion times! Imagine if you connected each of your tasks to the next bigger task – and what kind of knock-on effect you could create…..

Getting extraordinary results is all about creating a domino effect in your life.  OK, Toppling dominoes is pretty straightforward.  You line them up and tip over the first one.  In the real world, though, it’s a bit more complicated.  So, here are three three keys to making this work for you in real life, to get extraordinary results:

1.Start by identifying the one single thing you want to achieve.

And when you think about what you want to achieve or your success, shoot for the moon.

The moon is reachable if you prioritise everything, and put all of your energy into accomplishing that single most important thing.

Start with a small task or behaviour and do it consistently.

This will not only feel satisfying, but also open your eyes to the type of person you can become.

It does not matter which domino falls first, as long as one falls.

2. Maintain momentum by immediately moving to the next task you are motivated to finish.

Let the momentum of finishing one task carry you directly into the next task or behaviour.

With each repetition, you will become more committed to, and impressed by your new self-image.

3. Break things down into smaller chunks.

As you try new habits, focus on keeping them small and manageable.

The Domino Effect is about progress, not results. One small thing leading to a slightly bigger thing….

Simply maintain the momentum.  Let the process repeat as one domino automatically knocks down the next.

The challenge is that life doesn’t line everything up for us and say, “Here’s where you should start.”

Highly successful – high performing –  people know this.  So every day they line up their priorities a fresh, find the lead domino, and whack away at it until it falls.

Why does this approach work? Because extraordinary success is sequential, not simultaneous.  What starts out linear becomes geometric.  You do the right thing and then you do the next right thing.  Over time it adds up, and the geometric potential of success is unleashed.

The domino effect applies to the big picture, like your work or your business, and it applies to the smallest moment in each day when you’re trying to decide what to do next.

Success builds on success, and as this happens, over and over, you move toward the highest success possible.

Think about it.  When you see someone who has a lot of knowledge, they learned it over time.  When you see someone who has a lot of skills, they developed them over time.  When you see someone who has done a lot, they accomplished it over time. When you see someone who has a lot of money, they earned it over time. The key is over time.

Success is built sequentially. It’s one thing at a time.

There are many different paths to getting dominoes to fall.  Have think about how you could apply the Domino effect to every area of your life – health, wealth, relationships? Start to connect today to all your tomorrows, and you will begin to experience the power of the domino effect!

Because Every great change starts like falling dominoes
